For the first time in years I recently had a day without anything really to do. As such, with my BANKSY book and Vitamin Water in hand, I took a walk down to the beach. While I was sitting there, I was feeling very healthy and California refined drinking my Electrolyte and herb enhanced flavored bottled water and admiring the renowned graffiti artist' work. As I relaxed I started thinking about the thousands of California Yogis, runners, swimmers, bikers, power walkers and yuppies all wandering around with their healthy looking outfits which undoubtedly always include a disposable water bottle. The water bottle has actually become a symbol of health more so than the actual water itself.

Lots of us know that much of the bottled water that is consumed (about 25%) is simply reprocessed tap water, yet when it is sipped from a handy, light and extremely cleanly designed container, it looks healthier and trendy. Luckily, reusable bottle companies like SIGG are catching the L.A. trend but they are just a drop in the hat in light of the 8 billion gallons of bottled water purchased each year.

This whole 15 minutes made me want to stop drinking my beloved Vitamin Water, because I felt like a complete hypocrite. I was looking, feeling and acting healthy, yet, there was a 90% chance that my bottle would never reach the recycling center and would end up drifting in a square mile of ocean, joined by another 46,000 pieces ofplastic. Oh, and it would probably end up killing something cute too.

And this was the beginning of the Barefaced Vicious Waste Propaganda Project.

The Mission:
To recreate the vitamin water label with information regarding the impact plastic bottles on the planet and a not-so-subtle message regarding the hip look of donning a disposable beverage container with the Sunday afternoon outfit. Then redistribute the relabeled product back into the marketplace.
